Dental Services for Children

Our goal is to make your child’s first dental experience a good one! Our hygiene visits with your child are very comprehensive, starting with education, disclosing, digital x-rays if needed, thorough teeth cleaning, flossing, and fluoride treatments. Before age 3, we have the child sit on a parent’s lap so they become familiar with the process and are comfortable when it’s their turn. For our young patients, we teach them how to keep their mouth healthy. We disclose their teeth to point out where plaque and food debris is not being sufficiently removed. Then we show the proper way to remove the plaque and to effectively floss between the teeth. The doctor talks with the parent and child about the areas of concern and how to help in daily dental hygiene. A complete examination is done by our dentists.

Parents should assist with tooth brushing and flossing until your child is approximately 8 years old. For most toddlers, getting them to brush can be challenging. We recommend tooth brushing as a team. Your child can begin brushing on their own first, and then a parent can help them finish the job. Create a routine and stick to your tooth brushing and flossing routine each day. We recommend reading books to your child about oral health and tooth brushing. Most of all, we want your child’s dental experiences to be positive and to encourage life-long dental habits.
